Portable Church Venue Choice | What To Look For In A School Part 5
February 8, 2016

Today, we are finishing up the first part of our venue series. So far, we’ve discussed what you need to consider when choosing a school as your portable church venue. The last piece to the church-in-a-school puzzle is availability and accessibility. A school is a seasonal facility. If your church is planning to meet every Sunday of the year, you will need year-round access.

Availability and Accessibility

Availability

An important factor to consider is whether the school is available year round. Some school districts restrict usage of buildings during the summer or holiday months. There is also the chance of school plays, fairs, or activities on weekends. There are even some districts that only allow renters for short periods of time. Some say you can only meet for a certain number of months, others may say every other week. You want your church to be able to meet consistently in the same meeting space without interruption.

Don’t discount a school though if you aren’t able to do every week. Use the weeks you can’t use them as special opportunities to have a church-wide party or community service day. These opportunities can create very special memories and new connections!

Accessibility

If you are having to bring in your own equipment and system each week, accessibility and maneuverability should be a huge concern. Make sure the sidewalks, hallways, doorways, and wheelchair ramps will allow your team to easily load and unload your system. It’s also important that you consider how many floors you will be occupying, and with that the availability and size of an elevator. Everything will be on wheels, so look for potential obstacles. If you are in a cold weather climate be sure to find out if the school removes snow on the weekends.

We hope this series has been helpful. While schools are the most frequently used places to meet for churches, they certainly aren’t the only one. Click HERE to see a list of venues we’ve worked with, then connect with us with questions on each!
